Livvie Renny is a multidisciplinary artist who attempts to establish a dialogue between science and art. Renny has a specific interest in microbiology, she explores the growth of bacteria in our everyday lives and the aesthetically pleasing patterns it creates that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Renny explores these naturally occurring patterns and juxtaposes them with man-made objects which she manipulates to imitate bacteria. Renny's work uses expanded methods of drawing broadened through form, space, process and materials. Renny's sculptures mimic the human nervous system, in that, if one component is not there, the other components will fail. She uses this a metaphor of her some of her inspiration; the human body and it's cellular structures. The materials of her practice have a relationship with her ideas behind the work - in doing so Renny creates a dialogue between science and art.
